Buyer Beware

+ / - 5% in size - bullshit

If after the total meltdown (in real estate) you are still in the mood to buy an unfinished condo and you ask the developer for some assurance that the 1000 square foot condo you see on the plan is the 1000 square feet you will get.  One of the evasive answers will be something like - well we are allowed a leeway of +/- 5% or 8% depending on who is the biggest liar.  Let's see - I am a developer and I have a set of blueprints for a building. I hire a contractor for 20 million dollars to build this building for me and he delivers me a building 5% smaller than the specifications in the blueprint called for.  Gee I guess that's life "oh well" so be it.  Not on your bloody life.  You can bet the building was built to the specification given by the developer and that the developer knew exactly what the dimensions of each and every room was long before they ever dug the hole in the ground.  The fact that the sales material has one size and the actual building is another seems to be just editorial license by the sales department.  Don't accept that.  It is pure and utter bullshit so call it like it is.  Demand to see the blue prints and get somebody to do a take off for you.  Its your hard earned money.  Don't let them bully you into buying "before we raise the price at the end of the month".  Yes we were bullied. Yes we were lied to - yes we were stupid.
